Pakistani actor Naumaan Ijaz has sparked debate online after comparing the cost of sacrificial animals to iPhones.
In an Instagram story, he wrote, “Everyone thinks the iPhone is expensive, but once you go to buy a sacrificial animal, it feels like they are asking for your property papers.”
Known for his sarcastic takes on social matters, Ijaz’s remark did not sit well with many. His comment triggered backlash on social media, with critics calling it insensitive ahead of Eid-ul-Azha.
Despite the criticism, the veteran actor remains unapologetic — a trait his followers have come to expect.
Currently, Naumaan Ijaz is starring in Parwarish, where he plays the father of Samar Jafri’s character. He was recently seen in the drama Bismil.
Earlier this year, Ijaz appeared in DuniyaPur, a high-budget drama that aired on Green Entertainment.
Naumaan Ijaz recently shared his thoughts on how Ramadan, a time meant for spiritual reflection and self-discipline, often brings out the worst in some people.
“Basically, Allah sent Ramadan for Muslims, not for Pakistanis,” Ijaz quipped, setting the tone for his commentary. “Yes, Pakistanis do keep fasting, but they cannot bear it; they cannot control their anger during Ramadan. They bad-mouth each other on the road, they will not wait for the signals to turn green; instead, they will start fighting and indulge in a war of abusive words.”
Ijaz went on to highlight how some people misuse the month for personal convenience rather than spiritual growth. “We are at the worst of our behavior during Ramadan, although we are not good in other months either,” he said.
“Also, we are so lazy and lethargic; they do not want to work during Ramadan. They go for one Namaz and spend all the work hours in the mosque just to avoid work. You use Farz Ibadat for personal benefits. They kill the purpose of (Farz Ibadat) Worship”, added Naumaan Ijaz.
