Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday refuted the recent media reports suggesting the alleged removal of President Asif Ali Zardari from his position as a “malicious campaign.”

Earlier this month, veteran journalist Azaz Syed reported that President Asif Ali Zardari was being “pressured” to resign from his position as the President of Pakistan.

Moreover, Syed also claimed that the Chief of Army Staff, Syed Asim Munir, would be considered for the position of President following the removal of Asif Ali Zardari.

Another journalist, Raza Rumi, also claimed the same, citing a lack of consensus on the NFC Award and provincial autonomy as alleged fissure points between the federal government and Asif Ali Zardari.

The claim went viral and became a sensational topic in the political stratosphere of Pakistan in the last few days.

In a lengthy post on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi wrote, “We are fully aware of who is behind the malicious campaign targeting President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, and the Chief of Army Staff.”

He added, “I have categorically stated that there has been no discussion, nor does any such idea exist, about the President being asked to resign or the COAS aspiring to assume the presidency.”

Naqvi rebuted the media speculations, arguing, “The President of Pakistan enjoys a strong and respectful relationship with the leadership of the Armed Forces. He has clearly stated: “I know who is spreading these falsehoods, why they are doing so, and who stands to benefit from this propaganda.”

“The sole focus of the COAS is the strength and stability of Pakistan, nothing else. To those involved in this narrative, do whatever you wish in collaboration with hostile foreign agencies. As for us, we will do whatever is necessary to make Pakistan strong again, InshAllah,” Naqvi concluded.
