NAB summons Azam Swati, Amjad Ali in corruption cases

WEBDESK: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has issued call up notices to Senator Mohammad Azam Swati and Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Dr Amjad Ali in separate ongoing corruption investigations involving large scale misuse of public funds and assets beyond known sources of income.

According to an official NAB notice dated July 14, 2025, Senator Azam Swati has been summoned under Section 19 of the National Accountability Ordinance (NAO) 1999. The inquiry, being conducted under Section 18(c), relates to the alleged illegal withdrawal and misappropriation of more than Rs36 billion from the government treasury in Upper Kohistan.

The funds were allegedly withdrawn fraudulently from Head of Account G-10113 by officials from the District Accounts Office (DAO) Kohistan, the Communication and Works (C&W) Department, the Accountant General’s (AG) Office, and the National Bank of Pakistan (NBP), reportedly in collusion with private contractors.

NAB stated that documents previously submitted by Mr Swati during an earlier appearance were found “deficient.” He has now been directed to appear before the Combined Investigation Team (CIT-I) at the NAB regional office in Hayatabad, Peshawar on July 17, 2025, at 11:00 AM to address the identified anomalies.

Dr Amjad Ali Under Investigation for Unexplained Wealth

In a separate development, NAB has also summoned Dr Amjad Ali, MPA from PK-7 Swat and former Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Housing. The bureau is investigating allegations of accumulation of assets beyond known sources of income and involvement in corrupt practices.

Dr Ali has been directed to submit certified copies of his yearly asset declarations and income tax returns since 2013, along with a filled assets declaration form and responses to a questionnaire provided by NAB. These documents are to be submitted to the Combined Investigation Team (CIT-II) at NAB Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by July 17.

NAB has cautioned that any concealment of information or misreporting will lead to legal consequences under the accountability law.
