Federal Minister for Food Security Rana Tanveer Hussain said on Friday that the government is working on reducing taxes on milk to make it more affordable for the public and support the country’s dairy sector.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Dairy Association, the minister noted that milk is a basic necessity and should either be exempted from tax or face minimal taxation.

The Dairy Association highlighted several challenges facing the industry, particularly the burden of taxes on milk. In response, the minister assured the delegation that the government was aware of the issues and actively working to address them.

“Milk is a daily essential for every citizen and a key source of income for many rural farmers,” he said, adding that the government aimed to provide relief in the near future.

The food ministry, in an official statement, said that efforts are under way to create a more supportive environment for dairy producers. It added that a national seminar will soon be organised, bringing together all stakeholders to discuss long-term solutions for the sector.
