WEBDESK: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has officially appointed Mike Hesson as the new white-ball head coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team. The announcement was made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, with Hesson set to take charge starting May 26, 2025.

Mike Hesson brings years of international coaching experience to the role. He has previously served as the head coach of New Zealand and Kenya, earning praise for building strong, competitive teams. Most recently, Hesson coached Islamabad United, the defending champions of the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“I am pleased to announce Mike Hesson as the new head coach of the Pakistan team,” said Naqvi. Hesson will assume his responsibilities from May 26, joining the national setup specifically for white-ball formats.

The position had remained vacant after Pakistan’s tour of New Zealand in April, leading the PCB to evaluate several applications from across the cricketing world. After careful consideration, Mike Hesson was selected for his proven track record and deep understanding of white-ball formats.

PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi expressed confidence in Hesson’s ability to strengthen the team’s limited-overs performance. “Mike brings with him a wealth of international experience and a strong coaching reputation. We’re excited to have him lead our white-ball cricket,” Naqvi stated.

For Mike Hesson, this is an opportunity to shape one of the most mercurial but talented sides in world cricket. For Pakistan, it’s an appointment rooted in ambition – to finally break their streak of near-misses in white-ball ICC events and turn potential into silverware.

Currently, Pakistan’s white-ball team is preparing for a busy calendar, and Mike Hesson’s appointment comes at a crucial time. His strategic planning and ability to develop talent are expected to play a major role in shaping the team’s future.

His predecessor Aaqib Javed has been appointed as the Director of High Performance by the Pakistan Cricket Board.
