WEBDESK: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced a 50 per cent increase in fares for metro bus services running across Islamabad. The new fare hike will come into effect from Monday, May 26.
According to the official notification, the fare for all metro bus services, including the Orange Line, Green Line, Blue Line, and the electric bus service, has been raised from Rs. 50 to Rs. 100. This change affects all routes connecting different parts of Islamabad and nearby areas.

The Green Line runs from Bhara Kahu to PIMS Hospital, the Blue Line covers Gulberg Green to PIMS, while the Orange Line travels from Islamabad Airport Parking to sectors G-9 and H-9. The new fare applies equally across all stops, meaning passengers will now pay Rs100 regardless of how far they travel.
This sudden increase in the cost of metro bus services has sparked criticism among daily commuters. Many passengers say the Rs. 50 fare was already high, especially considering that there are fewer buses and many travelers have to stand during the journey.
Citizens are urging the federal government to take notice of this issue and reverse whatthis move. They also pointed out that in comparison, the fare for the Punjab Metro Bus Service from Saddar to the Secretariat is still only Rs30.
“This is unfair. There’s already so much inflation”, a commuter said.
Many commuters rely on metro bus services for affordable travel within the city. With inflation already hitting household budgets, this hike adds further financial pressure.
The public has requested that the authorities reconsider this decision and focus on improving the quality and number of buses before raising fares.
