WEBDESK: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a rainfall alert for multiple regions in the country. The monsoon spell is expected from 21 to 25 July in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, northeast Punjab, Balochistan, and Kashmir.

The rainfall alert warns the public of possible flooding due to heavy showers. Local streams and rainwater drains may overflow, causing serious disruption.

Low Lying Areas at Risk

Several cities with low-lying areas may experience waterlogging. These include parts of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Sargodha, Faisalabad, Okara, Nowshera, and Peshawar. A strong monsoon system is behind this rainfall alert, raising concerns for urban flooding.

The PMD has also included hilly areas in its rainfall alert. KP, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit Baltistan could face landslides due to intense rain. People living or travelling in these regions are advised to stay cautious.

Heavy Rains in the Past 24 Hours

Several areas have already received significant rain. The rainfall alert follows intense showers in Sindh, upper KP, upper Punjab, northeast Balochistan, and Kashmir.

Larkana in Sindh recorded 66mm, followed by Mohenjo Daro with 35mm. Khairpur got 14mm, Sukkur 13mm, Rohri 12mm, Thatta 7mm, and both Nagarparkar and Diplo recorded 3mm.

In KP, Balakot received 54mm. In Punjab, Islamabad’s Saidpur area got 40mm. In Kashmir, Kotli recorded 6mm. Khuzdar in Balochistan received 14mm of rain.

This rainfall alert will remain in effect until 25 July, as the Met Office continues to monitor conditions closely.
