WEBDESK: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major expansion in the Honhaar Scholarship program, increasing the number of students who will benefit from 30,000 to 50,000. She made the announcement while speaking at a laptop distribution ceremony in Sargodha.

The Honhaar Scholarship aims to support talented and hardworking students across Punjab by providing financial aid and access to digital tools. During the event, modern laptops were handed out to students to help them with their education and keep up with today’s digital demands.

Maryam Nawaz said the government’s goal is to ensure no student is left behind due to a lack of resources. She stressed that the Honhaar Scholarship is not just about financial help but also about building a strong, educated future for Pakistan. “Our children are our future, and we want to give them every possible opportunity to succeed,” she said.

She also shared that five lakh (500,000) laptops have been distributed over the last five years under different educational programs.

While talking about school conditions, Maryam Nawaz acknowledged that some schools still don’t have basic facilities like toilets and clean drinking water. However, she assured that by the end of this year, every school in Punjab will have washroom facilities and safe drinking water. She also promised that no child will have to sit on the floor as furniture will be provided to all government schools.

“The state is like a mother,” she added.

While addressing Maryam Nawaz made a striking analogy, saying that just as laptops must be protected from harmful viruses, young minds should be safeguarded against political “viruses.”

She encouraged the youth to remain vigilant against toxic ideologies and not allow their thinking to be manipulated or misled.

Referring to the events of May 9, 2023 when Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers and supporters attacked key state institutions, including the General Headquarters in Rawalpindi Maryam Nawaz labeled the incident as a “Black Day.”

The ceremony ended with applause and cheers from the students who received laptops.
