Apple is expected to release an updated version of its MacBook Pro later this year, featuring the new M5 chip. According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, while this update will primarily involve a minor chip upgrade, a more significant redesign is on the horizon for 2026.
Gurman described the M5 MacBook Pro launch as “certain,” suggesting it will likely occur around the same time as previous chip upgrades, which happened in October for both the M4 in 2024 and the M3 in 2023.
In addition to the MacBook Pro, Apple is also working on an M5-powered refresh of its MacBook Air, continuing its annual cycle of chip upgrades.
Despite the upcoming releases, the design of the MacBook Pro is not expected to change with the M5 version. However, Gurman reiterated that a major overhaul, featuring the M6 chip, an OLED display, and a slimmer design, is planned for 2026.
For those eager to upgrade, current models of the MacBook Pro, including the M4-powered 14-inch version, are available at reduced prices. The standard M4 14-inch model starts at $1,399, while the M4 Pro 14-inch model is available from $1,779 — both offering savings of over $200 compared to their original prices.
