LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has rejected Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) request to hold a rally at Minar-e-Pakistan on March 22. The court advised PTI to challenge the decision made earlier by the Deputy Commissioner of Lahore.

The Deputy Commissioner had denied PTI’s request, citing security concerns and the current law and order situation. PTI leader Akmal Khan Bari had filed a petition in LHC to overturn this decision, naming top Punjab government officials as respondents.

The LHC registrar’s office had already raised objections to PTI’s petition, stating that the party should have first approached the grievance committee before moving to the court. Justice Farooq Haider is now set to review the case and decide whether PTI’s petition is admissible.

The Punjab government has defended its decision, arguing that holding a large gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan poses security risks. The government’s response will be presented in court by senior officials, including the Chief Secretary, Inspector General of Police (IGP), and the Lahore Commissioner.
