LAHORE (Azaad English): The Lahore Canal road incident near the Beijing Underpass took an unexpected turn as it has been revealed that the security guards who opened fire on citizens were escorting PML-N MPA Emmanuel Athar Julius and his guests from the United Kingdom (UK).

According to police inquiries, Emmanuel Athar Julius, who holds a reserved seat for minorities, was traveling with a delegation of pastors from the UK. The group was accompanied by more than a dozen private security guards in SUVs and double-cabin vehicles when the altercation occurred. One of the guards, in a fit of aggression, allegedly fired at a young motorist, Mohammad Imran, following a heated exchange.

Eyewitnesses of Lahore Canal road incident reported that the convoy got stuck in a traffic jam at the underpass. When Imran failed to make way due to congestion, the armed guards reportedly confronted him, hurling verbal abuse before resorting to violence.

Despite his attempts to explain the bottleneck, the situation escalated when one of the guards fired directly at him. Fortunately, he escaped unhurt and even managed to overpower one of the attackers before the rest of the security team intervened and fled the scene.

Following the incident, police arrested six security guards, seized their weapons and vehicles, and registered a case against them for attempted murder and other charges. Meanwhile, the Punjab Home Department has initiated proceedings to suspend the security company’s license. The department issued a show-cause notice, questioning the company’s decision to employ guards who were deemed unfit and a risk to public safety.
