May 1, is observed as International Labour Day around the world, including Pakistan. This year, Labour Day falls on a Thursday, and people are curious whether there will be a public holiday in Pakistan or not.
The Cabinet Division has notified May 1 as a public holiday in a circular listing public holidays for the year 2025. However, the holiday will only be confirmed after the government officially notifies the holiday.
May 1 holiday in shcools
Schools across Pakistan in all the provinces, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Punjab, Sindh, and Balochistan, are likely to observe a public holiday on May 1, Labour Day. Students from both public and private sector schools will have the day off.
May 1 holiday in Banks
Last year, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) announced the May 1 holiday for banks on April 29. This year too, SBP is expected to announce the May 1 holiday around the same date. If announced, all banks across Pakistan will remain closed on May 1.
May 1 holiday in private, public offices
The government announces a public holiday, so offices working under the public sector will observe a holiday on Labour Day. Similarly, private offices across Pakistan will also observe a public holiday on this day.
Why do we cleebrate Labour Day?
Every year on May 1, the globe observes Labour Day, often called May Day, to show support for workers and to recognise working class rights.
Additionally, the day honours the efforts and accomplishments of labourers worldwide. This day is celebrated in order to start the process of protecting industrial workers and labourers from exploitation on the job.
