After nearly two decades, Kuwait has lifted its visa ban on Pakistani nationals, reopening doors for employment, business, and travel opportunities.
Mustafa Malik, the focal person for the Ministry of Overseas Pakistanis, confirmed on Monday that Kuwait has officially resumed issuing various types of visas to Pakistanis, including work, family, visit, tourist, and commercial categories.
“This decision will create thousands of opportunities for Pakistani citizens,” Malik said. “All these visas are now available through Kuwait’s online portal, making the application process more accessible.”
He noted that the development reflects growing international demand for skilled Pakistani labour. “Countries across the Arab world are looking to hire professionals from Pakistan, and we’re working to strengthen these ties,” he said.
Malik also shared that Pakistan had signed a memorandum of understanding with Italy, which includes an annual employment quota for Pakistani workers.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s ambassador to Kuwait, Dr Zaffar Iqbal, shared further details about ongoing cooperation between the two countries.
He said that Kuwait plans to hire 1,200 Pakistani nurses to meet the country’s growing healthcare needs. An initial batch of 125 nurses was set to arrive last week, but their deployment was delayed due to housing arrangements.
“Efforts are under way to resolve the accommodation issue, and we expect the nurses to arrive within the next few days,” Dr Iqbal said.
He also confirmed that Kuwait has resumed visa services for Pakistani nationals starting from May, describing it as a major step forward in strengthening bilateral ties.
