Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has said that the world should be worried, as Israel is not bound by any international nuclear discipline and is not a signatory to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons (NPT).

The NPT is a landmark international treaty aimed at preventing the spread of nuclear weapons and related technologies.

He noted that, in contrast, Pakistan is a signatory to all international nuclear frameworks.

“Our nuclear capability is for the benefit of our people and defence of our country against hostile designs of our enemies. We do not pursue hegemonic policies against our neighbours which are being amply demonstrated by Israel these days”, he added.

According to him, the conflicts being generated by Israel will engulf the whole region and beyond.

Current Israel-Iran situation

Israel and Iran have been exchanging missile attacks, and the situation has dragged on. Many fear it could escalate into a nuclear conflict, especially after Israel targeted a nuclear site a few days ago. However, Iran has clarified that it does not intend to use nuclear weapons.

US President Donald Trump has recently assured the world that both countries will soon reach a deal.

Iran is a party to the UN’s NPT, under which it has pledged not to develop nuclear weapons.

On Sunday, head of Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) intelligence organisation and two other generals were killed in Israeli attacks.
