KARACHI (Azaad English): Three universities including the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) , the National University of Technology (NUTECH) and Comsats University plan to establish campuses in Karachi city. Academia recently got approval from Federal Minister of Education Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The government plans to enhance quality higher education availability through this initiative which matches Prime Minister priorities for economic development. Students in Karachi will experience major advantages from the new campus establishment because it creates numerous educational chances for them.
Comsats University plans to establish its first temporary Karachi campus at the location of Hub Road. The development project submitted for a dedicated permanent campus construction includes a Rs4.6 billion financing request through PC-1. The education ministry failed to provide detailed information about the future development of NUST and NUTECH campuses in Karachi.
The forthcoming Karachi branch will make Comsats University expand its operations to seven locations in Pakistan. The university plans to expand its presence as researchers consider this move vital for raising educational opportunities in Pakistan’s biggest metropolis.
Dr Siddiqi served as both the chairman of Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) and Chairperson of NUST and stated these campuses would serve local students by providing them access to prestigious institutions without requiring them to move to other cities or Islamabad.
Earlier the Federal Education Minister declared through an announcement in 2024 that Karachi would welcome NCA and PIFD campuses apart from Fazaia College. The PIFD Karachi chapter began its operations in November 2024.
He further metioned the urgent need for selecting a permanent rector for Comsats University Islamabad (CUI) since the institution has operated without a standard rector since July 2023. Administrative challenges emerged when the institution lacked a permanent rector but the education ministry works to address this situation.
Comsats University Islamabad exists under temporary rectorship because an appointment for permanent leadership remains delayed although administrators have overseen management tasks for several months.
