KARACHI: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued an alert for a severe Karachi heatwave expected to grip the city over the coming days. Residents have been urged to prepare for temperatures that may reach as high as 39°C.

As per details, Karachi is in the grip of intense heat, with the mercury expected to reach up to 39°C today, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. However, due to high humidity, the temperature may feel as high as 49°C.

The weather is expected to remain extremely hot and humid over the next 24 hours in Karachi. Winds are blowing from the west at a speed of 16 kilometres per hour, while humidity levels currently stand at 67%.

The sudden rise in temperature is due to a shift in wind patterns, with sea breezes slowing down and hot, dry winds taking over. The PMD has warned that this Karachi heatwave could lead to prolonged hot and humid conditions, especially during the day.

Health experts and city officials are advising people to take extra care during the Karachi heatwave. Citizens are being asked to stay indoors during peak afternoon hours, keep hydrated, and avoid unnecessary travel or outdoor activities. Vulnerable groups – such as children, elderly individuals, and those with pre-existing health conditions – are especially at risk.

The Karachi heatwave is expected to continue for several days. Citizens are encouraged to monitor updates from the Met Office and local authorities for any changes in the weather forecast.
