The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has approved a Rs2.98 per unit reduction in electricity bills for K-Electric (KE) consumers in June, reflecting lower fuel costs for March.

In a notification issued Thursday, Nepra said the negative fuel cost adjustment (FCA) of Rs2.9898 per kilowatt-hour, amounting to about Rs4.05 billion, will be applied to electricity consumed in March 2025 and reflected in bills issued in June.

The relief will not apply to lifeline consumers, domestic protected users, electric vehicle charging stations, or any prepaid consumers who have opted for pre-paid tariffs.

The adjustment will appear as a separate line item in bills, calculated based on units consumed during the month to which the FCA applies. If June bills are issued before the notification’s implementation, the benefit will be carried forward to the following month.

Nepra clarified that this Rs2.98/kWh reduction is provisional and subject to revision once KE’s Multi-Year Tariff (MYT) for 2024–30 is finalised. Any difference arising from the final MYT determination will be addressed in future adjustments.

Separately, Nepra approved a Rs0.93 per unit increase in tariffs for consumers of ex-Wapda distribution companies (Discos), driven by higher fuel costs in April 2025.

The additional charge of Rs0.9306/kWh will also be applied in June bills and shown separately. Like the KE adjustment, it excludes lifeline, protected, EV charging stations and prepaid consumers. If June bills are issued before the notification is implemented, the charges will be adjusted in the subsequent billing cycle.
