Iran’s state TV building was hit in an Israeli airstrike on Monday. The attack happened while a news presenter was live on air. She was criticising Israel when the strike hit. The broadcast stopped immediately.
Iran’s news agency IRNA said live programming returned after a few minutes.
Earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is “on the road to victory”. He claimed Israel’s air force now “controls the skies over Tehran”.
The conflict started on Friday. Israel targeted Iran’s nuclear and military sites. Several top Iranian commanders and scientists were killed. Israel said it wants to stop Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. Iran denies this and says its nuclear program is for peaceful use.
Netanyahu made his statement at an Israeli airbase. He was joined by the defence minister and the army chief. He said Israel’s goal is to remove Iran’s nuclear and missile threats.
Netanyahu also told the people of Tehran to leave the city. Israel’s military spokesman posted an evacuation order for a district in Tehran. The message warned people to leave for their safety.
That district includes hospitals, embassies, and Iran’s state broadcaster. Israel’s defence minister said Iran’s state TV and radio would “disappear soon”.
He claimed that nearby residents had begun evacuating.
Earlier, Iran had fired missiles at Tel Aviv and Haifa. At least eight people were killed in Israel. The total death toll in Israel since Friday is now 23.
Iran says at least 224 people have been killed by Israeli strikes. Over 1,200 others are injured. More than 90% of the wounded are civilians. This includes women and children.
