WEBDESK: The federal capital on Saturday afternoon saw a change in weather as the city was hit by a hailstorm and heavy rain, causing traffic disruptions and prompting safety warnings from authorities.

According to the latest Islamabad weather update, dark clouds covered the sky early in the afternoon, followed by heavy rain and large hailstones in several parts of the city.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) had earlier issued a warning about potential heavy rain and storms today.

The Islamabad weather update from the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) stated that the current weather system is expected to last until late evening. More rainfall is predicted in the coming hours, along with strong winds and the possibility of further hail activity.

The Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) urged drivers to stay alert, maintain safe distances, and avoid unnecessary travel.

Residents have been advised to stay indoors during the peak of the storm. “We encourage everyone to remain safe and avoid driving unless absolutely necessary,” said an ITP spokesperson in an official Islamabad weather update.

This unexpected spell of rain has brought a sudden drop in temperatures, which had been rising steadily in recent weeks. The PMD says that the weather is likely to remain unstable over the weekend.

Authorities have not yet reported any injuries or major damage, but rescue teams remain on high alert in case of emergencies.

The Met Office has predicted that the spell of rain and hail may persist until Thursday, with further chances of showers and thunderstorms in northern Punjab and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

This Islamabad weather update comes after the city was hit by a heavy hailstorm on Wednesday, 16th April that caused widespread chaos. The hailstorm was accompanied by strong, dusty winds, making the weather more intense and reducing visibility in some areas. The intense hailstorm damaged windowpanes of many houses, uprooted trees and destroyed many cars that were parked out in the open.

Many residents took to social media to share pictures and videos of the white hailstones covering rooftops, roads, and vehicles, calling the weather both unexpected and refreshing.
