The two-day meeting, themed “Towards a Safer and More Effective Peacekeeping: Use of Technology and Integrated Approach,” will gather global stakeholders to deliberate on the future of peacekeeping and its evolving challenges.

The event serves as a key lead-up to the main UN Peacekeeping Ministerial, scheduled to be held in Berlin, Germany on May 13–14, 2025.

Senior Pakistani government officials, along with top United Nations dignitaries—including Mr Jean-Pierre Lacroix, Under-Secretary-General for Peace Operations, and Mr Atul Khare, Under-Secretary-General for Operational Support—will participate in the Islamabad meeting.

A series of panel discussions will address critical themes such as:

  • The role of technology in enhancing the safety and effectiveness of peacekeeping missions
  • Countering threats to peacekeepers using advanced technological tools
  • The role of regional and cross-regional organisations in supporting UN peace operations
  • Improving peacekeeper performance
  • Promoting an integrated approach for sustainable peace

The event offers Pakistan an opportunity to reaffirm its longstanding commitment to United Nations peacekeeping. As one of the leading troop-contributing countries, Pakistan has deployed over 235,000 peacekeepers across 48 UN missions to date. The nation has also paid a heavy price for global peace, with 181 Pakistani peacekeepers having laid down their lives in the line of duty.

By hosting this important preparatory meeting, Pakistan underscores its dedication to international peace and security as enshrined in the UN Charter, and continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of global peacekeeping efforts.
