WEBDESK: Instagram is saying goodbye to a once-popular option. The social media platform is removing the “Notes” option from posts and Reels. This feature allowed users to leave short notes or updates on their content, visible only to their followers for up to three days.
Introduced less than a year ago, the feature aimed to make the platform more engaging and social. However, most users didn’t use it as much as expected. Instagram head Adam Mosseri announced the change through a Reel on March 26. He explained that the platform has become “too complicated” over time, and this move is part of simplifying things for users.
While the feature did receive some love from a section of the audience, data showed that it was underused overall. As a result, the social media platform decided it was better to remove it rather than keep an option that wasn’t helping most people.
Mosseri said that Instagram will continue to remove Instagram features that aren’t widely adopted, so the app remains smooth and user-friendly. He believes that this is the right step toward improving user experience.
Although the feature is being removed from posts and Reels, it’s not going away entirely. The “Notes” option will still be available in the Direct Messages (DMs) section. This means users can still share short updates with their followers, but only through their inbox, not on the main feed.
