As Israel conducted airstrikes deep inside Iran targeting its nuclear facilities and military leadership on June 13, one Indian social media user has claimed the “helping” role of Indian intelligence against Iran.

User Tejasswi Prakash took to X (formerly Twitter) to write, “Proud moment for every Indian! India reportedly provided key intelligence to Israel for its recent precision strikes, a true testament to the strength of our strategic partnership. From defence to diplomacy, the India-Israel friendship is only getting stronger!”

Furthermore, he made another post claiming, “I am proud to see our intelligence support playing a role in global security. With precise intel, reportedly shared by Indian agencies, the IDF struck Iran’s Natanz uranium enrichment site, a key blow to Tehran’s nuclear ambitions. Strategic ties that safeguard peace.”

It merits a mention that India has cordial relations with Iran; however, Indian social media users have resorted to jingoist and extremist narratives against Iran for its positive role in mediating between India and Pakistan during recent clashes.

Indian propagandist and former army officer Gaurav Arya sparked a diplomatic crisis between Tehran and New Delhi as he called the foreign minister of Iran “a pig” for visiting Pakistan on national tv.

The clip quickly circulated online, prompting a public response from the Iranian embassy in New Delhi. In a statement, the embassy said: “Respect for guests is a long-standing tradition in Iranian culture. We Iranians consider our guests beloved of God. What about you?”

The crisis was so serious that the official page of Indian embassy in Iran had to post a clarification, writing, “The Indian Embassy in Iran would like to clarify that the person in the video is a private Indian citizen. His statements have nothing to do with India’s official position and the Indian government finds the disrespectful tone used in the video inappropriate.”

However, the Indian media and extremist users continued to resort to below the belt remarks against Iranian leadership for having cordial relations with Pakistan.
