Indian national arrested

Indian national arrested on UK flight after he pretended to be Muslim and incited violence during a disturbance on an EasyJet flight from Luton to Glasgow on Sunday morning.

Police detained 41‑year‑old Abhay Nayak when the plane landed at about 08:20 and charged him with assault and endangering the safety of an aircraft.

He appeared at Paisley Sheriff Court on Monday and entered no plea.

The court remanded him in custody to appear again next week. Counter terrorism officers reviewed video of the incident, but no terrorism charges were filed.

Indian National Arrested: charges, video, and public concern

Footage shared online shows a man shouting religious and political slogans before two passengers tackle him and hold him on the cabin floor.

Investigators have not stated a motive.

Community leaders and online commentators say the behaviour appeared aimed at posing as a Muslim to spread fear and provoke others.

Airlines focus on prevention and quick response during such incidents. EasyJet crew followed procedures.

Passengers assisted. Police met the aircraft on arrival. The sequence limited further disruption and allowed a safe handover to officers.

The wider concern is public safety and community cohesion. Using Islamic phrases to simulate extremist behaviour can fuel suspicion toward ordinary Muslim travellers.

It can also inspire copycats. Clear communication from authorities helps to separate facts from speculation and to prevent collective blame.

For passengers, the advice is simple. Report disruptive conduct early. Follow crew instructions.

Avoid confrontations unless directed and safe to do so. For platforms hosting viral clips, context matters. Editing without context can inflame tensions.
