Webdesk: International embarrassment is once again being suffered by India. The reports of the US state of Florida disclose that there is an abhorring maltreatment of Indian immigrants. The current government, led by Modi, which asserts to safeguard Indians abroad, has come under intense fire to remain silent.
A shocking report by ‘The Guardian’ exposed the mistreatment of Indian and other immigrants in US detention centers.
The report focuses on three facilities: the Krome North Service Processing Center in Miami, and the Broward Transitional Center, both in Florida.
According to the report, Indian immigrants were forced to eat food off the floor like animals. They were left to sleep on cold floors without beds for 12 days. Women were made to use toilets in front of men, violating their dignity.
Despite these disturbing conditions, beatings, being locked in filthy buses, and lack of medical care, India has not raised any protest. There has been no diplomatic communication with the US so far.
The Modi government, which claims to protect Indians abroad, is being criticized for its silence.
Experts say this shows the government is only focused on crushing minorities and political opponents at home. It is ignoring the basic rights and dignity of Indians living abroad.
Senior analysts believe this humiliation of Indian immigrants is the result of poor foreign policy under Prime Minister Modi. They say India now appears weak and silent on the global stage.
Experts also point out the hypocrisy of the Indian government. While India denies rights to its own minorities, it expects justice from the world. The treatment of Indians in the US is a mirror to India’s own double standards.
The reluctance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to speak out against the mistreatment of Indian immigrants in detention facilities in the US indicates the utter hypocrisy of his leadership.
His government enthusiastically cultivates the myth of the international savior of the Indians, but it cannot intervene when actual harm happens to his citizens in foreign countries.

This passivism is not merely characterized by having no diplomatic backbones but also indicates a government that is less interested in human dignity than nationalistic appearances.
His inability to demand accountability negates his alleged global leadership and exposes defenseless Indians to self-inflicted pain, unprotected and without justice.
