Web Desk. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs, while giving a statement regarding the Dalai Lama’s successor said that the Indian government does not take any position on religious practices or beliefs.

This statement came after the Dalai Lama said that only the trust he established has the authority to recognize his successor.

According to independent research, the Indian Ministry of External Affairs’ claim that India does not take a position on religious matters is utter hypocrisy.

The fact is that the religious identity of Muslims in India has been continuously targeted at the state level.

If India truly believed in religious neutrality, the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) would never have been implemented there, which excludes Muslims from the right to fast-track citizenship. A nefarious design architected by Modi to disenfranchise the Muslims in India and change the future demographics by settling Hindus.

Nor would measures like the National Register of Citizens (NRC) have been taken, which aim to deprive millions of Muslims in Assam of their citizenship.

Moreover, Muslim men are harassed in India through baseless propaganda like ‘love jihad’ for marrying Hindu women. Muslims have been portrayed as the spreaders of the virus during the pandemic through hateful slogans like ‘Covid Jihad’ and ‘Spit Jihad’.

The hypocrisy of the Indian state is further exposed when, on the one hand, it quickly legislates on private religious matters like triple talaq, while on the other hand, it gives free rein to mobs who kill Muslims on the charge of beef.

At the civic level, Muslims are continuously profiled on the basis of their religious identity, are considered security risks, and are even denied the right to reside. Under state patronage, Bollywood creates films that portray Muslims as traitors, oppressors, and permanent “others.”

Independent research has shown that the India’s claim of being aloof from religion is a lie.

The reality is that when it comes to global interests, India feigns indifference to religion, and when it comes to its Muslim minority, it vigorously interferes in religion, persecutes, and spreads prejudice.

This is not neutrality, but religious bigotry disguised as policy.
