India is once again trying to show its military power by testing missiles near the China border. This comes just two months after India’s defeat against Pakistan in May 2025.
On Wednesday, the Indian Army tested Akash Prime surface-to-air missiles in Ladakh. The missiles hit two fast moving aerial targets at around 15,000 feet. Indian Defence Minister Rajnath Singh called it a big success for India’s air defence. But many experts believe this is another move to provoke China.
India tries to match China
India has been trying to match China’s military strength for years. But most of its efforts have failed. The Akash Prime missile system is the same one that Brazil recently refused to buy. Its poor performance has made it unpopular in the global market.
Now, India is using this same system near the China border. This shows that India is more interested in making headlines than actually improving its defence.
India’s government is under pressure after the loss to Pakistan earlier this year. Many believe these missile tests are a way to distract people from that defeat. But this strategy could create more problems with China.
Dangerous behaviour at the border
Since 2014, India’s ruling party BJP and its supporters in RSS have promoted aggressive politics. This aggressive mindset is not just inside India but also visible in its foreign policy.
By testing missiles in Ladakh, India is sending a message to China. But it is also creating more tension in the region. These actions are risky and may lead to serious consequences.
India is trying to look powerful. But testing a rejected missile system at the border is not a smart move. Instead of making India strong, it may increase its isolation in the region.
