WEBDESK: The Indian National Congress has strongly criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s foreign policy, calling it a failure that has left India isolated on the global stage.
The attack comes after India skipped a key vote in the United Nations General Assembly that called for a ceasefire in Gaza. Congress leaders said India’s absence marked a clear shift from its traditional foreign policy and hurt its global reputation.
Senior Congress leader Anand Sharma called India’s silence “unacceptable” and said it had damaged India’s image as a leader of the Global South. He accused the government of following a failed strategy based on “slogans and showmanship.”
Mallikarjun Kharge party’s president said India’s non-participation in the Gaza vote had left it alone in the international arena. He also questioned Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar’s repeated mistakes and demanded accountability.
The party’s spokesperson Pawan Khera went further. He labelled India’s policy “schizophrenic” and said the Modi government was acting “without any clear principles.”
The opposition party has demanded a debate in Parliament on the direction of India’s foreign policy. Congress leaders said India must raise its voice globally and take a stand for peace, justice, and human dignity.
“Why didn’t India vote in favour of a Gaza ceasefire?” Congress asked.
Party officials warned that Modi’s foreign policy was undermining India’s traditional values and weakening its moral authority across the world.
