In an interesting development, the Adiala Jail authorities on Friday failed to produce former Prime Minister Imran Khan before the Islamabad High Court.
Previously, former spokesperson of Bushra Bibi, Mashal Yousafzai, had filed a petition against denial of permission to meet Khan in Adiala Jail. In the last hearing, the IHC issued orders for Imran Khan to be produced in the court.
In today’s hearing, the judge remarked that if the Advocate General (AG) wants to produce the founder PTI through video link then the court must be informed.
The court also noted that if Khan is not presented in court via video link by 2pm, then he must be presented physically in court by 3pm.
However, both deadlines given by the court for ensuring Imran Khan’s appearance expired as the AG explained that it was not possible to produce Imran Khan in court due to security concerns.
The Islamabad AG also stated that it was not possible for them to present Imran Khan via video link as the judge instructed Adiala jail superintendent and Islamabad AG to submit their affidavits in this regard.
Interestingly, the court also formed a commission which includes law clerk Sakina Bangash to visit Adiala Jail in order to confirm from Imran Khan whether Mashal Yousafzai was his lawyer.
The commission is expected to visit the prison on March 15 while the court ordered the jail superintendent to make arrangements for the meeting.
Yousafzai expressed satisfaction at the formation of the commission and requested that the body also investigate whether Imran Khan is being allowed to meet his friends or not.
The AG responded that the court order instructed about meetings with lawyers, not friends.
