Tariffs on Chinese-Made iPhones Could Drive Up Prices

The US has implemented significant tariffs on goods imported from China, and iPhones, which are largely manufactured in China, are no exception. According to analysts, if Apple decides to pass on the tariff burden to consumers, the prices of iPhones could soar. Currently, iPhones face a 54 per cent tariff in the US which could lead to a steep price increase.

Price Hike Could Push iPhone 16 Model to $1,142

Rosenblatt Securities analysts estimate that the base price of the iPhone 16, which launched in the US at $799, could rise to $1,142 due to an expected 43 per cent increase in production costs. If Apple passes on this cost increase to consumers, the iPhone 16 Pro Max, currently retailing at $1,599, could cost around $2,300,equivalent to nearly Rs650,000 in Pakistan.

With over 220 million iPhones sold annually, Apple’s primary markets in the US, China, and Europe are likely to feel the brunt of this price increase. The escalating cost could significantly impact consumer purchasing power and demand in these regions.
