It was a historic day for Pakistan cricket, as newly inducted youngster Hassan Nawaz lit up the international cricket stage with a stunning hundred against Blackcaps. This wasn’t an ordinary century. It was a statement of belief, a roar of a Cornered Tiger, determined to prove his doubters wrong. To back two consecutive ducks with a spectacular hundred in your debut series, shows the mental toughness that Hassan possesses; a hallmark of a champion player.
Hassan Nawaz’s aggressive stroke play, along with the brilliant cameos by Mohammad Haris and captain Salman Ali Agha proved to be a breath of fresh air, that the fans had been craving for quite a while. This batting performance can potentially be the stepping stone for Pakistan’s progression from a dull, timid batting line up to a side that can set & chase targets in excess of 200 on a consistent basis.
Hassan’s knock wasn’t just a personal triumph; it was a big win for team management as well, which stayed firm in sticking with Hassan, despite severe criticism from pundits & ex-cricketers. After those two back to back ducks, it would’ve been easy to drop him, to play it safe. But they took a brave decision to persist with the 22 year old talented batsman from Layyah and that decision paif off massively. His blazing 105 not out didn’t just silence the doubters; it screamed that Pakistan’s future is in bold, attacking hands. Hats off to Salman Agha and the coaching staff for backing their youngster through the storm. That’s how you build a team, by trusting the young guns to step up.
Contrast this with the stale, selfish approach we’ve seen from Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam in limited-overs cricket. For too long, these two have hogged the crease, eating up balls like no tomorrow, all for the sake of padding their stats. Their obsession with personal milestones has choked Pakistan’s momentum time and again, leaving the middle order in total chaos. Watching Hassan and Haris tear into the Kiwis with fearless intent was a breath of fresh air.
This historic win is a proof that T20s aren’t about survival, they’re about domination. Babar and Rizwan’s outdated batting belongs in the past.
Hassan Nawaz, M. Haris & Salman Ali Agha showed today that when talent meets trust, then sky is the limit. Here’s to more of this electric, modern-day cricket and to Pakistan’s cricket new hero, Hassan Nawaz.
