Hailstorm In Islamabad? Check Out Forecast For May 27

Pakistan Meteorology Department (PMD) on Monday revealed that rainstorms, thunderstorms, and isolated heavy hailstorms in Islamabad are expected on May 27 (Tuesday) evening.

With the expected hailstorm in Islamabad, the citizens can find some relief from the ongoing intense heatwave, when the mercury reached above 40 degrees in the capital last week.

The PMD stated that while the weather is expected to remain dry and hot on May 26; there is much more likelihood that intense rainfall, heavy spell of hailstorm in Islamabad will occur on the evening of Tuesday.

Furthermore, windstorms and rainfalls are also expected in Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Lahore, Faisalabad, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Chitral, Dir, Swat, Malakand, Mansehra, Battagram, Shangla, Kohistan, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi, Nowshera, Mohmand, Khyber, Orakzai, Kurram, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Kohat, Karak and Waziristan on May 27.

According to the Met Office, these areas might experience downpours from May 27 to May 31.

The Met Office further cautioned that “Windstorm/dust-thunderstorm/hailstorm and lightning may damage loose structures like electric poles, trees, vehicles, and solar panels, etc, in upper/central parts including Islamabad.”

It also stated that travelers, tourists, and the general public are advised to take precautionary measures during the weather activity.

A Lahore-bound flight, FL-842 from Karachi, witnessed scary and intense turbulence as the clouds of powerful dust and rainstorms engulfed the city of Lahore today. Videos of passengers inside the fortunate Lahore flight are going viral on social media, in which the travelers could be heard screaming and making prayers. It merits a mention that a major national incident was avoided by the skilful pilot of the Lahore flight, which encountered a powerful storm shortly after touching down. According to media reports, the flight from Karachi to Lahore had already touched the runway at Allama Iqbal International Airport when it experienced incredibly strong winds.
