A group of Pakistani Americans met Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder, Imran Khan in Adiala Jail today (Sunday).
Earlier in the day, this group also met a senior official in Islamabad.
The efforts are being made to secure some relief for Imran Khan, who is serving his sentence in the Al-Qadir Trust case and others.
Is Imran Khan Close to Freedom?
It is believed that PTI and its leadership can only expect improvement in their situation if they stop negative politics, refrain from targeting the military, and avoid actions that harm the economy.
Some PTI leaders, who have previously engaged in dialogue with the establishment, are trying to revive these backchannel talks. The military establishment, however, has consistently maintained that it will not engage with politicians or political parties and insists that political matters should be resolved among the political players themselves. Despite this, some PTI leaders have acknowledged the possibility of backchannel communication.
The party’s social media has run multiple campaigns against the military, spread false news, and attempted to pressure Islamabad and GHQ for Imran Khan’s release by reaching out to influential global capitals such as Washington and London.
It is pertinent to mention that many of Khan’s supporters believed Trump’s return to the presidency could tilt the odds in favour of the jailed former prime minister. However, that assumption quickly fell apart once Trump actually took office.
