Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader, Gopal Khemka, was shot dead outside his home in Patna, India, on Friday night.

The accused was on a bike when he opened fire on the leader, who was sitting in the front seat of a car. The leader died on the spot.

According to Indian reports, further investigation is underway, and one bullet and one shell have been recovered from the crime scene.

The brother of Gopal Khemka has said that police arrived three hours late.

The reason behind the crime is not yet known.

It is pertinent to mention that in 2018, Gopal Khemka’s son was also murdered in a similar manner when he was going to step out of his car. He was also killed in Patna.

The Congress has said that the incident has once again “exposed” the law and order situation in the state.

Independent MP from Purnea, Pappu Yadav alias Rajesh Ranjan slammed the Nitish Kumar-led government, saying “no one is safe in Bihar”.

“Bihar has become a sanctuary for criminals! Nitish ji, please spare Bihar,” he said.

Who was Gopal Khemka?

A low-profile but influential figure in business and politics, Khemka was an MBBS doctor, hence he began his business in the healthcare sector.

He was the owner of Magadh Hospital, which is one of the oldest private hospitals in the state. He was also a director of the Bankipore Club.

In addition, the BJP leader owned several medicine shops across Patna, a petrol pump on Exhibition Road, and multiple factories in Hajipur, including two cardboard manufacturing units.

After his son’s death, Gopal Khemka sold some of his other businesses and also distanced himself from politics.
