WEBDESK: Oscar-winning US actor, Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa were found dead in their Santa Fe home on February 27th. The couple’s dog was also found dead at the scene.
As quoted in the Santa Fe New Mexican, Santa Fe County Sheriff Adan Mendoza confirmed just after midnight on Thursday the couple had died, along with their dog.
Sheriff Mendoza confirmed that no foul play was suspected in the deaths, and authorities believe that the couple passed away around midnight. However, the Sheriff did not provide any further details about the death.
Gene Hackman enjoyed a 40-year career in film, including performances in The French Connection, Superman and The Royal Tenenbaums, before he retired in 2004.
Hackman’s first major role came in 1969 with Bonnie and Clyde, where he played one of the criminal compatriots of Warren Beaty and Faye Dunaway. His breakthrough role was followed by many impressive performances including his Oscar winning portrayal of Jimmy “Popeye” Doyle in the French Connection.

He won his second Oscar for best supporting actor for playing Little Bill Dagget in Clint Eastwood’s Western film Unforgiven in 1992.
Gene Hackman was 95 years old at the age of death, and his wife Betsy Arakawa was aged 63.
Hackman’s contributions to cinema spanned decades, earning him widespread admiration and a dedicated fan base. Although he retired from acting in the early 2000s, his remarkable legacy in film continues to resonate.
Sherrif Mendoza said, “All I can say is that we’re in the middle of a preliminary death investigation, waiting on approval of a search warrant.”
