Webdesk: Former Indian Home Minister and senior Congress leader P. Chidambaram has said there is no evidence that Pakistan was involved in the Pahalgam terror attack, adding that the attackers were Indian nationals.
Criticising the Modi government, Chidambaram questioned why the Indian authorities assume the attackers came from Pakistan. “Has the government confirmed their Pakistani identity?” he asked.
The Former Indian Home Minister further stated that the attackers were, in fact, Indians who received terror training within India itself.
During a debate on Operation Sindoor in Parliament, Chidambaram’s statement triggered an uproar from BJP members, who strongly criticised him for allegedly giving Pakistan a clean chit. The BJP leaders repeated the government’s stance, blaming Pakistan for the attack.
Once again, the Congress rushes to give a clean chit to Pakistan — this time after the #PahalgamTerrorAttack .

“Have they (NIA) identified the terrorists or where they came from? For all we know, they could be homegrown terrorists. Why do you assume they came… pic.twitter.com/glySDQyhb4
"There is no evidence of Pakistan’s involvement in the Pahalgam terror attack which killed 26 civilians. “Why do you assume they came from Pakistan?”,

Chidambaram has previously criticised the Modi government’s position on Gaza as well. In a post on social media platform X, he highlighted that over 1,000 Palestinians have been killed since May while trying to get food, according to the United Nations.
It is important to note that Pakistan not only condemned the Pahalgam incident but Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif also offered full cooperation for a transparent and impartial investigation. The Modi government, however, declined the offer.
The attack was in the tourist town of Pahalgam in Indian-occupied Kashmir (IIOJK), where 26 tourists were killed in a shooting incident.
These comments by Chidambaram have brought out a new bout of political chatter in India since a number of opposition figures supported his position of evidence-based accountability, whilst some have hurled caustic criticism at him.
Congress leader P. Chidambaram now questions the Pakistan link in the Pahalgam terror attack; as if decades of cross-border terror need fresh certificates.

A political storm has erupted just before the Indian Parliament debate on Operation Sindoor, following comments made by senior Congress leader P Chidambaram.
He also challenged the evidence presented to give a claim that the attackers were across the border, enquiring on what evidence really connects the massacre to Pakistan.
These comments by Chidambaram have brought out a new bout of political chatter in India since a number of figures supported his position of evidence-based accountability, whilst some have hurled criticism at him. The truth, however, is the truth no matter how strongly some on the extreme side wail or contort to fit their political interests.
