Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar is scheduled to undertake a one-day visit to Afghanistan this week.
According to Dawn News, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar recently met with Afghanistan’s acting Minister for Commerce, Haji Nooruddin Azizi, in Islamabad.
As per the Foreign Office spokesperson, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening trade and regional connectivity. The meeting also underscored the importance of high-level political engagement between the two neighbouring countries.
Meanwhile, the efforts of Pakistan’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Sadiq Khan, appear to be bearing fruit.
Diplomatic sources have confirmed that Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will travel to Kabul this week, where he is expected to hold formal talks with his Afghan counterpart.
This will mark Ishaq Dar’s first visit to Afghanistan since assuming the role of Foreign Minister.
According to sources, the Deputy Prime Minister will also meet with Afghan leadership. Key issues expected to be discussed during the visit include cross-border terrorism, border management, the dignified repatriation of refugees, the TAPI gas pipeline project, and various other matters.
Sources added that Pakistan will specifically raise concerns regarding terrorist sanctuaries in Afghanistan and the use of American weapons by militant groups.
