Food prices continue to rise ahead of Ramadan 2025

As the first Ramadan starts tomorrow, food prices have already gone up ahead of Ramadan as majority of people prepare for Ramadan festivities.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) witnessed a 0.38% upward trend in inflation in the last week of February.

It should be highlighted that the upward trend was mostly seen in prices of essential food items across the nation.

The demand for vegetables and fruits rise significantly as Ramadan approaches; hence, rising food prices immensely affects the common public.

Price of tomatoes increased by 11.49 percent, followed by bananas who price surged by 8.32%, price of eggs, chicken, potatoes, and onions increased by 8.32 percent, 5,43 percent, 4.13 percent, 2.79 percent, respectively.

Beef and sugar prices also saw an upward trend by 1.68 percent and 1.55 percent, respectively.

Meanwhile, prices of fruits and vegetables have been revealed in Lahore ahead of Ramadan 2025.

Following are the prices of fruits:

  • Strawberries Rs400 per kg
  • Apples Rs350 per kg
  • Guava Rs300 per kg
  • Mosambi Rs300
  • Papaya Rs300
  • Grapes Rs600
  • Pomegranate Rs600 per kg

Following are the prices of vegetables in Lahore

  • Tomatoes Rs100 per kg
  • Onions Rs100 per kg
  • Potatoes Rs60-80 per kg
  • Garlic Rs650
  • Ginger Rs560
  • Carrots Rs40
  • Capsicum Rs100
  • Eggplant Rs100
  • Okra Rs200

It should be emphasised that some essential food items witnessed a decrease in prices as well. For instance, price of Lipton tea dropped by 6.62%, while bread, mustard oil, garlic and pulses saw moderate declines of 1.67%, 1.08%, 1.0% and 1.12% respectively.
