The Punjab Assembly held a session today (Wednesday) during which a resolution was submitted for the construction of a luxurious five-star hotel in Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore.

The resolution was submitted by the Istehkam-e-Pakistan Party (IPP) Shoaib Siddiqui.

He said that the hotel is intended to address public inconvenience during cricket events.

Deputy Speaker Zaheer Iqbal Channer postponed the resolution until the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) provides an official response.

It is pertinent to mention that during a series or tournament, when foreign players come to Pakistan, they usually travel to Gaddafi Stadium either for matches or practice from their respective hotels. Typically, when they are on the road, authorities shut down the area, which is extremely inconvenient for the general public.

Renovation of Gaddafi Stadium for Champions Trophy

Ahead of the Champions Trophy, National Bank Stadium (Karachi) Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Gaddafi Stadium were renovated to welcome the international teams.

In this regard, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) allocated a huge amount of Rs12.80 billion to revamp the three venues.

Renovation work at Gaddafi Stadium started last year in October.

After the renovation, the stadium will now accommodate an additional 10,000 spectators, bringing the total seating capacity to 34,000, allowing more fans to enjoy the matches live.
