Field Marshal Asim Munir meets top Chinese leadership, reaffirms strategic ties

Webdesk: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) of Pakistan, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, NI (M), made an official visit to the People’s Republic of China. On his visit to Beijing, he also had a number of key meetings with senior Chinese political and military leaders, reiterating the close strategic relationship between the two nations.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had a meeting with the vice president of China, Han Zheng and the foreign minister of China, Wang Yi, where they discussed the regional and global political affairs, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and requirements of mutual cooperation to address challenges of common geopolitics.

Both parties were pleased with the close collaboration and reinforced their determination to uphold mutual respect, multilateralism and sustainable regional peace. Chinese leaders praised the Pakistan Armed Forces for their key role in ensuring stability in South Asia.

On the military front, the COAS met with General Zhang Youxia, Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, General Chen Hui, Political Commissar of the PLA Army, and Lieutenant General Cai Zhai Jun, Chief of Staff of the PLA Army. He was given a guard of honour at PLA Army Headquarters as a mark of respect and friendship.

These meetings focused on strengthening defence ties, including cooperation in counterterrorism, joint training, defence modernisation, and institutional linkages. Both sides stressed the importance of improving coordination and preparedness to face emerging security threats.

China’s military authorities showed complete trust in the bilateral defence relationship and valued the contribution of Pakistan towards peace in the region.

Field Marshal Asim Munir expressed gratitude to China and assured that Pakistan would extend its military relations to the broadest possibilities.

The visit reflected the maturing of political and military connections between Pakistan and China, as well as their dedication to regional peace due to a continuation of senior-level interaction.
