Modi avoided Trump meeting over possible encounter with Pakistan’s Field Marshal

American magazine Bloomberg has claimed that Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi avoided meeting the US President due to fears of a possible meeting with Pakistan’s army chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir.

According to the report, Modi declined an invitation to dinner on June 17. The magazine said Modi was concerned that the US President might introduce him to the Pakistani military leader.

Bloomberg said a 45-minute phone call between the US President and Modi took place the same day. The conversation was described as a turning point in US-India relations.

Tensions reportedly rose after the call. US President Donald Trump later referred to the Indian economy as “dead” and imposed a 50% tariff on Indian products.
