ISLAMABAD: The federal cabinet meeting, which was supposed to take place today, has been postponed. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif was set to chair the meeting, which will now be held on March 26.

The cabinet meeting was expected to focus on important political and economic issues. It was also set to discuss a 12-point agenda, including key appointments and agreements.

One of the main reasons for the delay was the passing of the mother of Army Chief General Asim Munir.

The cabinet was to approve the appointment of board members for Pakistan Ordnance Factory and Heavy Industries Taxila. It was also expected to sign agreements with Hungary for diplomatic trade activities and the International Finance Corporation for e-mobility cooperation.

Additionally, the cabinet was to review a report from the Ministry of Interior regarding directives from the Islamabad High Court. The Whistleblower Protection and Vigilance Commission Act, 2025, was also set for discussion, along with a decision on appointing the Pakistan Tobacco Board Chairman.

Other important topics included improving the country’s resource utilization and finalizing the Income Tax Amendment Bill, 2025, which aims to restore tax exemptions for full-time teachers and researchers.

The cabinet will also review and confirm decisions made by the Cabinet Committee on Privatization and the Economic Coordination Committee during their recent meetings on March 11, 13, and 21.

The postponed meeting will now take place tomorrow, where all these issues will be discussed and decisions will be made.
