Backlash Over Abir Gulaal With Fawad Khan

Vaani Kapoor starred with Pakistani actor Fawad Khan in Abir Gulaal. It marked Fawad Khan’s return to Bollywood after nine years.

The film was scheduled to release on May 9 but was banned in India after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. The collaboration between Vaani and Fawad sparked anger on social media, with many calling for a boycott.

Vaani’s Message: “Calm Down on Hate”

Without directly naming Abir Gulaal, Vaani said at the event, “Last couple of months, years, everything became hectic and heavy on social media. So, I hope one can calm down on hate, create room for love and kindness… What you give will come back to you. If you hate or troll somebody, it will someday get back at you, and it’s going to sting you worse.”

She said the atmosphere online had become too negative and urged people to be more thoughtful about the energy they put out.

Despite the noise, Vaani kept quiet until now. Her recent comments seem to be a soft appeal for peace, without engaging in further debate.
