WEBDESK: A tragic incident unfolded on Tuesday morning in Islamabad’s DHA Phase 5, where a father and daughter were swept away in car by floodwater in Rawalpindi during intense monsoon rainfall.
The victims, identified as Qazi Ishaq and his daughter, were residents of Sector A, DHA Phase 5. They were reportedly on their way to the daughter’s college when their car was caught in a fast rising drainage stream. Eyewitnesses said the floodwater surged suddenly, the fatherand daughter swept away in car by floodwater in Rawalpindi had no time to escape. Onlookers heard them calling for help before the vehicle was dragged away and disappeared from view.
Rescue teams have been searching for several hours, but the father and daughter remain missing as of the latest update.
The incident comes as heavy monsoon rains continue to cause widespread damage across Islamabad and Rawalpindi. According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, 54mm of rain was recorded in Rawalpindi’s Kacheri area, 40mm in Saidpur, 18mm in Shamsabad, and 15mm in Golra. The relentless downpour prompted authorities to reopen Rawal Dam’s spillways for the second time in a week after the water level exceeded 1,750 feet.
As rescue efforts continued for them in floodwater in Rawalpindi, officials in Rawalpindi declared a rain emergency. WASA Managing Director Saleem Ashraf confirmed that all leave for staff had been cancelled and emergency teams are on high alert. Section 144 has been imposed, banning entry into drains and seasonal nullahs.
Water also entered homes in Phase 8 of a private housing society in Rawalpindi. Villages such as Bagh Rajgan, Kharkan, and Sohawa have also been affected. In several parts of the city, including Adiala Circle and Biscuit Factory Chowk, rainwater caused major traffic disruption.
In Islamabad, the Noor Pur Shah Nullah near Bari Imam overflowed, worsening the flood situation. Meanwhile, in Murree, continuous monsoon rains triggered landslides, particularly along Chara Gali–Bastal Road. Several vehicles were trapped under falling debris. At least 11 people were rescued and one person was hospitalised.
In another serious incident in Namb Jhanda Gali village, a massive boulder fell on two homes. Emergency teams and local residents rushed to help.
Authorities continue to urge the public to stay indoors, avoid travelling during the rain, and stay away from drains and flood prone areas.
