Azaad fact check debunks fake Balochistan images spread by Indian RAW backed accounts

WEBDESK: Indian intelligence agency RAW has once again been linked to the spread of false images and misinformation about Balochistan on social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

According to Azaad Fact Check, a viral image recently shared from an account operated from India was proven to be doctored. It falsely suggested that Baloch people were protesting against Pakistan.

Image Tampered to Spread False Narrative by RAW Backed Accounts

The image was originally taken in 2009 in Khuzdar, Balochistan. It showed children saluting the Pakistani flag.

RAW linked accounts edited the image to make it appear as if the children were opposing the flag, attempting to give a false impression of anti-Pakistan sentiment in the region.

The same accounts have also circulated fake statements claiming Balochistan is under “illegal military occupation” by Pakistan.

One statement posted under the name “Republic of Balochistan” declared that any agreement between Pakistan and other countries about Balochistan would be invalid without the Baloch people’s consent.

It accused Pakistan’s establishment and Punjab based elements of exploiting Balochistan’s resources, changing population balance, and denying the right to self-determination.

The statement also referenced the early 1970s government of Sardar Ataullah Mengal, a figure often mentioned by separatist groups.

Azaad Fact Check confirmed that this campaign is part of a larger misinformation effort by Indian accounts targeting sensitive regions in Pakistan.

The organisation reminded the public to verify viral content and avoid trusting non-verified social media handles, especially those operating from outside Pakistan.

The viral image shared by RAW affiliated accounts was falsely claimed to be proof of Baloch resistance.

In reality, it was a photo of children paying respect to the national flag.

Spreading such fabricated content, analysts say, not only damages real political discussions but also fuels distrust and instability.
