World’s richest person, Elon Musk, has declared that he formed a new political party.
In a post on X, he declared the formation of the “America Party“, to “give back” the people of the US their freedom and challenge what he called the nation’s “one-party system”.
“By a factor of 2 to 1, you want a new political party and you shall have it,” Elon Musk wrote on Saturday.
“When it comes to bankrupting our country with waste & graft, we live in a one-party system, not a democracy. Today, the America Party is formed to give you back your freedom,” he declared.
The move can be seen as Elon Musk openly challenging Trump, as he had previously warned that if the president’s tax and spending bill were passed, he would form a new party. A day earlier, Trump signed ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’ into law after it was passed by Congress.
Trump vs Elon Musk
Earlier, President Trump hinted at deporting Elon Musk from the US. The billionaire held US citizenship for over two decades.
Tesla’s stock dipped by roughly five per cent following the exchange, raising concerns among investors about the potential fallout from a full-scale political war between two of the country’s most high-profile figures.
Trump suggested that Musk’s opposition to the spending bill stemmed from his frustration over the removal of certain EV-related incentives.
“Without government support, Elon might just have to pack up and return to South Africa,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social account.
The fallout between the former allies marks a sharp turn from just months ago, when Elon Musk was a regular presence at Trump’s side, both men donning MAGA hats and appearing in sync on energy and tech policy. Their falling-out became public in May, after Musk walked away from his role in DOGE and began openly attacking Trump’s bill.
