WEBDESK: Electricity prices in Pakistan will potentially see a reduction of 30 paisa per unit under the monthly fuel adjustment report. The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has submitted a request for the February fuel adjustment, and the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) is set to review it in a hearing tomorrow.

According to the request, Pakistan generated 6.495 billion units of electricity in February, while 6.666 billion units were supplied to power distribution companies. The cost of electricity per unit in February was PKR 8.22, whereas the reference price was set at PKR 8.52 per unit. If approved, the adjustment will slightly lower electricity prices for consumers.

The report also highlights the sources used for power generation in February. 27.12 percent of electricity was generated from water, 15.02 percent from local coal, 1.5 percent from imported coal, and 10.32 percent from gas.

Additionally, 14.11 percent of electricity in February was produced from imported LNG, and 26.59 percent was generated from nuclear fuel.

Additionally, the government has decided to refund the extra charges collected from electricity consumers

This slight reduction in electricity prices will provide relief to consumers struggling with rising energy costs. The final decision will be made after NEPRA’s review, and if approved, the adjusted rates will be reflected in upcoming electricity bills.
