ISLAMABAD: Pakistanis are expected to get six holidays for Eidul Fitr 2025 if Eid falls on Monday, March 31. According to the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the Shawwal moon is expected to be sighted on Sunday, March 30.

If the moon is sighted on March 30, Pakistanis will celebrate Eidul Fitr after observing 29 fasts.

If Eid falls on March 31, the three official Eid holidays will be from Monday to Wednesday (March 31 to April 2). Since government employees already have Saturday and Sunday off, they will enjoy at least five consecutive holidays.

If the Shawwal moon is not sighted on March 30, Eidul Fitr will be celebrated in Pakistan on Tuesday, April 1.

If Eid is celebrated on Tuesday, the Eid holidays are expected to be from April 1 to April 3.

However, nothing can be confirmed until the federal government issues an official notification regarding Eid holidays 2025.

The government usually announces the Eid holidays for the public sector before the moon is sighted.

The private sector follows the government’s notification, though sometimes they also announce additional holidays.

Public and private educational institutions, including schools, colleges, and universities, also follow the same holiday schedule.

In the notification issued by the Government of Pakistan’s Cabinet Division for public holidays in 2025, the Eidul Fitr holidays are mentioned from March 30 to April 1.

“In the case of Muslim festivals, the dates of holidays are based on anticipated dates and are subject to the appearance of the moon, for which a separate notification will be issued by the Cabinet Division,” reads the notification.

This means Eid holidays depend on the sighting of the Shawwal moon.

In 2024, the government announced a three- and four-day holiday for Eidul Fitr for offices observing five and six working days a week, respectively.
