WEBDESK: The chicken prices saw a significant increase, in Lahore, causing concern among consumers and traders alike.
The cost of live broiler chickens and chicken meat has gone up sharply, along with a rise in prices for eggs, vegetables, and fruits.
Chicken Prices Rise Sharply
The wholesale price for live broiler chickens was set at Rs397 per kilogram. However, in the market, it is being sold for as high as Rs411 per kilogram. Farmers are charging even more, with live chickens going for Rs440 per kilogram. Meanwhile, the farm gate price remains at Rs383 per kilogram.
Chicken meat prices have experienced a major increase. You can now buy meat for Rs640 a kilogram, while pure boneless chicken is priced at Rs750 a kilogram. Higher chicken prices are making it difficult for many families, who count on chicken as their usual protein.
Egg Prices increase in Lahore
The cost of eggs is rising in addition to the higher costs for chicken. Because there are fewer eggs than there are buyers, the price of farm eggs has increased to Rs304 per dozen.
In wholesale markets, a crate of eggs is selling for as much as PKR 9,000. The shortage and high prices of eggs are adding to the worries of consumers in Lahore.
Vegetables and Fruits See Price Hike
In addition to chicken prices and eggs, the cost of vegetables and fruits has gone up. For example, ginger is priced at PKR 850 per kilogram, lemon at PKR 750, garlic at PKR 450, and onions at PKR 50 per kilogram.
Among fruits, The price of apples per kilogram is Rs550, falsa is sold for Rs450, mangoes are priced at Rs400, apricots for Rs350 and peaches are available for Rs260.
Since food prices have increased, daily life in Lahore is becoming more difficult for those trying to purchase basic food items. Higher chicken prices and other food items prove that there are on-going supply issues and rising prices in the market.
