ECP notifies KP senators for general, technocrat, women’s seats

Webdesk: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) released an official notification on July 24, 2025, announcing 11 senators from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

The notification states, “In pursuance of Section 124 of the Elections Act, 2017, and all other powers enabling it in that behalf, the Election Commission hereby publishes the names of the following eleven candidates returned to the Senate of Pakistan on seven General Seats, two seats for Technocrats including Ulema and two seats for Women from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province in place of the Members whose term had expired on 11th March, 2024 under clause (3) of Article 69 of the Constitution.”

This announcement included the names of eleven people elected to the Senate of Pakistan representing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The new Senators are simply replacing ones whose terms expired on March 11, 2024, according to the Constitution.

The current group of newly elected Senators will conclude their term on April 8, 2030.

Of the eleven elected Senators, three groups can be distinguished:

General seats: Seven Senators are elected under general seats. These include Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Noor Ul Haq Qadri, Mirza Muhammad Afridi, Niaz Ahmad, Atta Ul Haq, and Muhammad Talha Mahmood.

Murad Saeed, Faisal Javed, Noor Ul Haq Qadri, and Mirza Muhammad Afridi are independent candidates. Niaz Ahmad is from PML-N, Atta Ul Haq is from JUI-P, and Muhammad Talha Mahmood is from PPPP.

Technocrat seats (including Ulema): Two Senators were elected for these seats.

They are Mohammad Azam Khan Swati, an independent candidate, and Dilawar Khan from JUI-P.

Women’s seats: Two Senators were elected for women’s seats.

They are Rubina Naaz, an independent candidate, and Rubina Khalid from PPPP.

This was an announcement made by the Election Commission of Pakistan and was signed by the Deputy Director (Coordination), Muhammad Asad Ali.

The notice was served to a range of authorities including the Secretary of the Senate of Pakistan and the Provincial Election Commissioner of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. It was also submitted to the Printing Corporation of Pakistan press to be officially published.
