Karachi’s traffic police have launched a city-wide crackdown on dumper trucks after a video went viral showing one of the vehicles being driven dangerously on Shahrah-e-Faisal and refusing to stop for law enforcement.

The video, widely circulated on social media, showed the dumper speeding on the busy main road and ignoring signals from a patrolling traffic unit attempting to pull it over. The driver then fled the scene, according to a Karachi Traffic Police spokesperson.

Following the incident, authorities ordered all dumper associations to locate and hand over the vehicle and its driver. However, police said the Dumper Association, led by its president Liaquat Mehsud, failed to meet its commitment despite initially asking for time to cooperate.

In response, the traffic police launched an overnight operation targeting dumper trucks across the city. A total of 142 vehicles were fined for violations, 27 were impounded, and one driver was taken into custody. Legal action has been initiated against the arrested driver under Sections 99 and 113 of the Motor Vehicles Ordinance, 1965.

The traffic police said the crackdown will continue until the specific dumper and its driver are produced.

“No one is above the law. They must comply,” the spokesperson said.
